The Ferry Wharf that will be in working in coming days will have ferries to port your private vehicles including four wheelers from Mumbai to Mandwa, Alibaug in the Raigad District. The Ferries will be known as Ro Ro Car Ferry (Roll In, Roll Off). The plan was accepted at 150 crore project by the current CM Devendra Fadnavais last year in October.
The plan was establish to free space on the roads of Mumbai, provide a speedier route in-between. What originally took 3 and half to 4 hours by road, will only take 30mins through the Ro Ro ferry service. This will enable people to free themselves from the worry of finding a transport which is rather expensive on these islands. The ferries will be coming in of every 30mins frequency and will be operational through 365 days of the year without being disturbed by the Monsoon rains or any other bad weather conditions.
According to the reports, the vessel will be able to hold 350 passengers along with 40 cars at a time. The four wheeler owners will have to shell out Rs. 400-500 each vehicle and for tempos the rates will be Rs. 800 per trip to reach Mandwa.
